What is a Women’s Circle/Red Tent? Maybe you are acquainted with the notion of women’s circle or red tent, but if you aren’t, here’s a short explanation what it’s about: In ancient times many cultures women gathered in a space that allowed them to be separated from the men when they were menstruating. Traditionally, girls would start attending the Red Tentwhen their bodies started to cycle with the moon. It was here they would learn about their fertility cycles and every facet of being a woman. The Red Tent was also a place of truth and storytelling, where the deepest secrets could be shared so no woman had to carry her burdens alone. A Women’s Circle is a timeless tradition which serves as a regular forum for empowering women’s sense of selfhood. This is why women in the whole world are continuing this tradition or rediscovering it nowadays. Sitting together in a Circle is a very powerful tool as all women in the Circle are equal, there is no hierarchy, every one of them gets seen, heard and felt in the same way. There is no need to impress anyone or to wear one of the countess masks we have crafted for our survival in society. We just sit together and share our stories from a place of honesty and truth, without fear of being judged or shamed for our thoughts, our bodies or our emotions. That’s also what we see as the most important mission of our Circle in Brussels: Providing a safe space for every women that decides to join us, no matter if it is just once or on a regular basis. We are an open Circle and you are more than welcome to attend (the maximum amount of places we have is usually between 10 and 12, so if you want to join, please make sure to let us know in advance)!
