This workshop, presented by Swami Dharmashakti, will centre around what stress is and methods to reduce stress through yoga therapy. This event is open to all Yoga Australia member and non-members. About the Presenter – Swami Dharmashakti Swami Dharmashakti (Michelle Jakovickis) is an initiated karma sannyasin in the Satyananda lineage of Integral yoga. She is a yoga therapist and teacher with over 25 years of experience in teaching and practising yoga. She is also a registered psychologist currently working with prisoners. Dharmashakti has facilitated workshops and classes with a focus on increasing well-being, health and a connection to life and living. What’s on the agenda? In this presentation, the purpose of this Community of Practice Session will be to: Define stress Learn about the different types of stress Understand the physiology of stress Look at causes and symptoms of stress Yogic management of and approach to stress Learn to use the Koshas, Nadi’s and aspects of the Yamas and Niyamas to inform yoga therapy sessions/treatment planning for stress management Identify and discuss key yoga and meditation skills for stress and how to choose helpful practices to suit your client/student Develop a yoga therapy treatment plan for stress management Discuss cases of stress presentations Distinguish stress from other clinical concerns and when to refer onwards What to Bring Please bring your own mat, and cushion and water as needed.
