Presented by NUS Centre For The Arts with GENUS – NUS Guitar Ensemble Fri 25 Mar | 8pm | UCC Hall $25 & $20 Discounts & concessions available at bit.ly/CFATIX NUS Guitar Ensemble celebrates its 35th anniversary with an exciting repertoire of its most memorable works such as Jounetsu Tairiku by Taro Hakase and Huan-Yin Vanakam, an original composition by founder Alex Abisheganaden fusing Chinese and Indian instruments with the guitars. Featuring soloist Kevin Loh. [About Kevin Loh] Kevin Loh is a UK-based, Singaporean classical guitarist and an HSBC Youth Excellence Award Recipient for Musical Excellence. In 2012, Kevin became the first Singaporean to compete and win the first prize at the Guitar Foundation of America’s International Youth Competition. In 2013 he premiered Bernard Tan’s Guitar Concerto with Singapore Symphony Orchestra. Most recently in 2014, he was also awarded the first prize at Andres Segovia International Youth Guitar Competition, among fifty participants from more than thirty countries. [About NUS Guitar Ensemble] Formed in 1981 by Mr Alex Abisheganaden, the NUS Guitar Ensemble (GENUS) is a 40-member strong ensemble. As the region’s first Niibori guitar ensemble and the pioneer group in Singapore to use Niibori guitars, GENUS has set the benchmark for local guitar ensembles. Under the guidance of their music director, Dr. Robert Casteels, the ensemble boasts a wide repertoire ranging from classical works to jazz, traditional folk and popular contemporary pieces.
