NextGen Athletics Camp

The University of Stirling, in partnership with Active Stirling and Scottish Athletics, invites you to take part in an exciting opportunity to develop yourself as a junior athlete. Our NextGen Athletics Camp is taking place on Tuesday 14 – Thursday 16 July 2020! Open for competitive athletes aged between 14 and 18 years old, this three-day residential camp will help athletes work on the skills needed to pursue their athletic goals. Sessions delivered by Scottish Athletics’ renowned event-group coaches Develop knowledge, skills and competencies that are essential to achieve your full potential Support and insight into what’s needed to develop to senior status Athlete education opportunities, and Q&A sessions with elite international athletes The camp will be led by Active Stirling’s Athletics Development Officer, Janelle McGurk, with support from coaches identified by Scottish Athletics. Who can attend: We welcome age group athletes who are registered with an affiliated athletics club. Minimum age: 14 Athletes aiming to develop themselves towards the next competitive level This camp is event group training, offering coaching for the following disciplines: Endurance  Sprints and Hurdles Jumps* Throws* *adapted training sessions due to facility availability What’s included: Based at Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence, voted The Times ‘Sports University of the Year 2020’, this camp will include: ​Track and field sessions at the University, led by identified Scottish Athletics coaches, focusing on: Skills + technique workshops Training principles Specific event analysis Strength and Conditioning workshop with the University’s Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach, Joshua Walsh. Observation of High Performance training sessions. Meet and greet opportunities with international athletes. Education talks from coaching team  Understanding your training Competition behaviours + routines Training philosophy Yoga with University of Stirling high performance swimmer and qualified yoga instructor, Eve Thompson, focusing on: Flexibility Core strength Breathing skills Camp kit Full board and accommodation will be provided in the University’s residences and catering outlets.
