What are you angry about? What is putting pressure on you, your family and your community? And more importantly, what on earth can you do about it?! For the past 7 years, Nottingham Citizens have been working across the county for the common good. Together, we form a diverse alliance of 37 civil society institutions from education, faith and third sector backgrounds. We train local people in the craft of Community Organising, equipping them with the practical tools to change the world from what it is, to what they believe it should be. We believe Community Organising works. This training will unpack the argument for Community Organising and share some of the practical tools we use to act together for change and to strengthen our institutions in the process. Training includes sessions on negotiation, power and power analysis, understanding self-interest, the use of 121 relational meetings, developing a culture of shared action and leadership. Trainees will leave having made a personal action plan for how they will go about making change, with ongoing support from our professionally trained community organisers. ‘How to make change’ will run on Friday 15 November and Saturday 16 November. The material is particularly targeted at those interested in participating in our local ‘action teams’, as well as those in both formal and informal leadership roles within their institutions. Lunch and light refresments are provided. Attending both days of the training is compulsory as the content builds throughout each session.
