Always the same. People come, people go. Living the high life. But time is running out. It is 1928, and within the golden halls, trouble boils. A cynical Doctor, crippled by the Great War, guides us through the lives of the hotel’s guests and staff – from a handsome young Baron running from large debts to concierge Erik desperately awaiting news from the hospital; from the ageing ballerina Grushinskaya to the fatally ill bookeeper, Kringelein; the determined businessman Preysing, his typist Flaemmchen who dreams of Hollywood, Grushinskaya’s devoted companion Raffaela and to the staff that cater the whims of the wealthy, whilst having so little themselves. This is an opulent time – but there is precious little of it left. Life must go on. This is the first time this bold, immersive experience has been staged in this country.
