Fyffes is one of the world’s largest and oldest tropical produce importers and distributors, responsible for the shipment of over 100 million boxes of bananas, pineapples and melons each year. Fyffes Coventry is one of Europe’s largest banana ripening facilities where every week over 10 million bananas are turned from deep green to bright yellow before being distributed across the UK. Green bananas arrive by container after their 7,000 km journey from Central America and over the next few days they are ripened to retailer specification. The scale of the operation is huge – it takes over 250,000 bananas just to fill one of Coventry’s many ripening chambers! We will hear from Mike Cartledge, Centre Manager, and our visit will end with a guided tour. Our visit is limited to a group size of 16 so places are available on a first come, first served basis and initially restricted to one guest per firm to ensure fairness. The cost for members is £15.
