The aim of the workshop is to provide a working knowledge of corporate governance principles as they apply to resources companies. This workshop provides a general introduction for those new to the area. But it also examines in detail practical issues experienced by ASX listed companies. So it is valuable for those already concerned with corporate governance – lawyers, company directors, company secretaries, resource company personnel, government officials and others. The workshop is spread over four days and the first two days will focus on issues common to all companies such as the principles of good corporate governance (including those applicable to ASX listed companies), directors’ duties and continuous disclosure. The second two days will explore these in more detail with particular reference to mining and oil and gas companies – for example common accounting, reporting and disclosure problems. The workshop will use plenary sessions in the form of lectures interspersed with class discussion, supplemented by case studies examining in greater detail practical and topical problems. The workshop will be led by John Chandler, Romanie Hollingworth and Barbara Gordon. Romanie and Barbara are leading corporate lawyers with over 20 years’ experience. John Chandler has over 40 years’ experience in corporate governance. They will be joined by a faculty of distinguished speakers drawn from private practice, government, and in house counsel.
