This practical training allows you to complete the practical training framework for the DofE award at the Bronze Level. Over 2 session you will gain the skills needed to complete your Practice expedition framework. You need to attend all the dates allocated in the training block and both dates are included in the cost. Once you have completed this you can go on to an Assessment expedition to complete expedition section. Please note both sessions have a different location Address. Session 1: Training Day- Saturday 15th February- 10-4pm Address: 3 Gibcracks, Timberlog Lane, Basildon, Essex, SS14 1PE Bring a lunch to cook on the Traingia, either pasta, noodles, couscous or Rice with Sauce. 10-11am- Arrival, introductions, plan of day and Team building game 11-12.00pm- Practical putting up tents and campcraft Skills 12.00-2.00pm- Cooking- use of stoves, Safety procedures and precautions: – Cooking lunch 2.00-2.30pm- Rucksack packing competition plus Rucksack safe lifting techniques 2.30-3pm- Countryside code quiz and Info 3pm-4pm-Choosing suitable clothing game, footwear and emergency equipment and knowing how to use it. What you need to bring: – You will need to bring a day **** with Lunch, drinks, pen, notepad, you will need to dress warm and comfortable like a PE lesson. (No jeans) Session 2: Practical Navigation day 10-4pm- Saturday 14th March- Cold Lunch to eat on Route Address: Gilwell Scout Campsite, Gilwell Ln, Waltham Abbey, London E4 7QW Whole day navigation and compass training with staff, Emergency procedures out in field, pacing, practical map and compass skills, health and safety on expedition and following a small pre-planned route in teams remotely supervised by staff. You will be walking all day so please wear sports trainers or walking boots. What you need to bring: – You will need to bring a day **** with Pack Lunch, Waterproofs, 2 litres of water, you will need to really dress warm and comfortable like a PE lesson with gloves and hat. (No jeans) Once you have booked on you will get sent the expedition paperwork and a consent form. The consent form must reach us 2 weeks before the trip.
