Botanical Functional Medicine 1

This is an online interactive course, and can be taken from any location where you have an internet connection.  All course materials can be downloaded on to your computer for personal future reference. Registration will stay open until February 1, 2020. =================================== Botanical Functional Medicine 1: Adrenal/Pancreas/Thyroid The Botanical Functional Medicine 1 course is 12-week, online exploration into both functional medicine and clinical herbalism. This class is taught by Dr. Kyla Helm (MD) and Sam Coffman and is focused heavily on case studies and clinical experience in working with chronic disease using an integrative approach t course includes assessment/diagnosis, herbal and orthodox protocols and treatments, a materia medica of over 100 herbs for specific dysfunction covered in the curriculum, nutrition, numerous case studies, homework and quizzes. This course will have up to 4 hours of video lectures and lessons per week in addition to live interactive Q&A sessions. Recommended prerequisite for this course is the “Introduction to Nutrition” course at our school or an Functional Medicine 1 addresses several topics to include: Introduction to botanical functional medicine Cellular imbalance Systems biology as an approach to medicine Common nutrient deficiencies Fatigue and exhaustion Organ system triad 1: Adrenal, Pancreas, Thyroid Cortisol levels Thyroid function Insulin resistance Sports Nutrition Mitochondrial dysfunction Oxidative stress Understanding and working with blood, urine and saliva tests Class Information: Course materials will be available for download every Monday morning. Live interactive sessions will be scheduled for Thursday evenings, 7pm central time.  All sessions will be recorded and available to enrolled students in the online clasroom.  The exact dates of the sessions will be posted closer to the start of the course. Course Start Date: Monday January 6, 2020 No classes the week of February 3rd. Mid-term spring break the week of March 9th. Last week of classes and the release of the final exam will be the week of April 6th. Students will have 30 days access to complete course testing and download all course materials. The course will close on May 11, 2020. Registration for this course will end on September 30th, 2019. Introduction to Clinical Nutrition will satisfy the Nutritional requirement in the Clinical Herbalist and Family Herbalist programs.
