AI x Music Festival in Stift St. Florian Festival Ars Electronica 2019 Kultur prägt Technologie, Technologie prägt Kultur. Eine Wechselwirkung, die auch am Beispiel der Musik deutlich wird, einer Kunstform, die unsere Gefühle auf beinahe magische Weise zum Ausdruck bringt und gleichzeitig untrennbar mit mathematischen Regeln und physikalischen Prinzipien verbunden ist. Ihre Geschichte und Entwicklung ist daher auch eine der innovativen Technologien, die Musikschaffenden immer wieder neue Möglichkeiten des Ausdrucks schufen. Genau diesem Aufeinandertreffen von menschlicher Kreativität und technischer Perfektion verschreibt sich das erste „AI x Music Festival», das Ars Electronica und die Europäische Kommission als Teil der STARTS-Initiative ausrichten. Musik mag die emotionalste aller Kunstformen sein, aber sie ist auch tief mit der Mathematik, der Physik der Klangerzeugung und dem Handwerk der Instrumentenbauer verbunden. Das bedeutet, dass die Geschichte der Musik von Anfang an auch die Geschichte der Instrumente, Werkzeuge und Geräte ist, die benötigt werden, um sie auszuführen, aufzunehmen und zu reproduzieren. Die Ausstellungen werfen einen Blick auf die Kultur- und Technikgeschichte der mechanischen Musikspieler, schließen die Lücke zu den neuen Entwicklungen im Bereich Machine Learning und Artificial Intelligence und zeigen, dass sie nicht nur technologische Phänomene sind, sondern grundlegende Fragen nach dem Verhältnis von Mensch und Maschine aufwerfen. Am Samstag bietet das diesjährige Festival eine besondere Attraktion: einen Ausflug in das Stift St. Florian. Es ist der unbestrittene Hotspot des „AI x Music Festivals“: Ob Marmorsaal, Kirche, Krypta oder Gruft – die eindrucksvollen Räumlichkeiten dieses spirituellen Orts bilden einen perfekten Rahmen, um über die künftige Rolle intelligenter Maschinen und unser Selbstverständnis als Menschen nachzudenken. An diesem Tag besteht in der Zeit von 13:00 – 23:00 ein permanenter Shuttle Verkehr zwischen POSTCITY und St. Florian. Das Shuttle ist im Ticketpreis inbegriffen. It is this very encounter between human creativity and technical perfection to which the first AI x Music Festival, organized by Ars Electronica and the European Commission as part of the STARTS initiative, is dedicated. Music might be the most emotional of all art forms, but it is also deeply connected to mathematics, to the physics of sound production, and to the craftmanship of instrument makers. This means that from the very beginning, the history of music is also the history of the instruments, tools, and devices needed to perform it, record it, and reproduce it. The exhibitions take a look at the cultural and technological history of mechanical music players, bridges the gap between them and the new developments in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and shows that far from being mere technological phenomena, they raise fundamental questions about the relationship between human and machine. On Saturday, this year’s festival will offer a special attraction: an excursion to the Monastery of Saint Florian. It is the undisputed hotspot of the AI x Music Festival: Whether it is the marble hall, church, crypt, or tomb—the impressive rooms of this spiritual site are a perfect context for reflecting on the future role of intelligent machines and our self-image as human beings. There will be a permanent shuttle service between POSTCITY and St. Florian from 13:00 – 23:00 on this day. The shuttle is included in the ticket price. Tickets now available!
