2019 The Nutcracker – Columbia Ballet School

The 2019 Columbia Ballet School production of The Nutcracker features Joseph Phillips as the Sugar Plum Cavalier and Terrance Henderson as Drosselmeyer. Anita Ashley is Artistic Director. Guest Artists for 2019  Joseph Phillips – World-renowned ballet dancer and Columbia native Joseph Phillips will dance the role of the Sugar Plum Cavalier for all performances. Phillips has danced with San Francisco Ballet, Miami Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre He was a principal dancer with Primorsky Stage, Marinsky Theatre, in Russia. He has recently been a resident guest artist with Ballet Manila. Phillips is a graduate of the Governor’s School. He studied at the American Ballet School in New York, and the North Carolina School of the Arts in holds more gold medals than any other American dancer. Terrence Henderson – Known for his work as a dancer, actor, singer, director, and choreographer, Henderson is in his fifth season as Drosselmeyer. In 2016, he received the Steve Morrison Visionary Award. Henderson was the creative force behind Columbia’s Vibrations Dance Company. As a teaching artist, he has worked as Artist-in-Residence at Logan Elementary School where he taught dance and drama for almost 20 years. This year, Henderson began leading the dance program at Midlands Arts Conservatory. He is also Artist-in-Residence for Columbia Ballet School. Bobby Craft – A native Columbian and veteran performer with over 40 years entertaining in the Midlands, Craft is in his second year as The Rat King and Mother Ginger in The Nutcracker. He has also danced with the Columbia Ballet Theater, Columbia City Ballet, Carolina Ballet, and numerous theater productions around Columbia.
